Members of the Cochin Laughter Club take laughing rather seriously! For the last three years they have diligently been practicing Laughter Yoga regularly and many claim it to have made them a healthier person.

The over-50 members ranging from 75-year-old to small vendors to young professionals thoroughly enjoy these sessions held thrice every week. P Rajendran Nair, yoga trainer, says different laughter exercises are developed here and named after famous personalities. They include ‘Charlie Chaplin Laugh’, ‘Rajasthan Marble Laugh’, ‘Hanuman Laugh’, ‘Madras Mail Laugh’, ‘Hen Catching Laugh’ etc. “This is a healthy practice which can reduce stress and can curb lifestyle diseases to a big extent,” says Nair.

Some comments from participants:

Kochouseph Chittilappilly, Chairman V-Guard: I feel fresh whenever I do this. There is absolutely nothing that comes to my mind while taking part in Laughter Yoga for an hour and it takes away all the stress.

Sathyan, CA: The one-hour session is where I get all my positive energy. My long working hours gave me Spondylosis which got cured through the sessions.

N M Hussain, heart patient: I feel healthier than before. Laughter Yoga is used as a healing therapy which bestirs our mental and physical activities.
