After one of my training workshops, a participant asked me if I would like to work with her offering brain fitness workshops. Since joining her team I’ve not only learned a lot about brain fitness but I’m seeing a much deeper and valuable influence our habits, moods and attitudes have on our brains and the connection of laughter and staying young.
Four basic fundamentals are recommended to keep our brains young and growing. Yes, growing! Scientists have learned that even as we age, we are capable of developing more neuron connections and staving off mild memory loss and even dementia.
1. Practicing Mental Fitness or using our brains in challenging ways is very beneficial in keeping our brains young. Problem solving, working puzzles, playful games and activities including mentally challenging tasks help resist neurodegenerative diseases. Changing our normal routine and experiencing new things is also good. Use it or lose it!
2. Proper Diet is important…that’s food for thought!
3.Physical Exercise is one of the best things you can do to keep your brain fit.
4. Stress Reduction helps keep the brain healthy.
Staying socially active, being optimistic and happy are also important to brain fitness and staying young at heart.
We know that Laughter Yoga and Laughter Clubs are good exercise for body and spirit. They promote optimism and connecting people on a heart level. The addition of deep breathing contributes to better circulation and the feeding the oxygen to the brain cells and helps reduce stress. That pretty much covers three of the requirements giving you a great brain fitness workout! As leaders of Laughter Yoga we reap even more benefits as facilitators.
So Laughter Yoga may seem a little light but it’s weighing in like a heavyweight in the brain fitness arena.
