Today, there are over 200 Laughter Clubs in Bangalore alone, making it the country's best ‘Laughter City’. Every day, between 6 am and 7 am and 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm, residents from a cross-section of professions, classes and creeds get together for an hour-long laughter therapy session which also combines simple flexibility exercises, yoga and pranayama.
There are two anchors for each club who conduct the session, which includes jokes and enactments of funny situations which make everyone burst into laughter. Sight-seeing trips, celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions are also organized for the members.
For those who are in their sixties and above, being a part of the Laughter Club is a new way of life. They come to relax and also make friends. The idea is to stay happy and healthy. Moreover, there is no application, no fees or anything to be a part of the club. Anyone can come and laugh. In fact, this has been one of the key reasons for the rapidly growing popularity of Laughter Clubs.
This formula to better health has become so popular that even corporates invite the members of Laughter Clubs to conduct sessions at their office campus. Apart from helping in bringing down diabetes and blood pressure, laughter therapy is a great way to relax, become stress-free and bond with people.
