Skype Laughter Club

You can’t find time to join a laughter club in the neighbourhood park. No problem. Now, you can laugh from the cozy comfort of your home or even on the move on your cellphone.

First, read this story that was published in the Sunday Times of India, Indore on November 11, 2012:

Online laughter catches fancy of net-savvy

Indore: Online laughter is emerging as a new craze. People connect to each other through Skype globally only to laugh. The idea is to de-stress oneself. People are attracting towards online laughter as it offers them many more features, including getting friendly to people around the globe, take the session during flexi timing and above all, one can do it from anywhere. The biggest advantage with online laughter being that everyone is busy these days, still everyone is available online and they immediately contact one to join it through the session. People are using smart TVs, cell phones, laptops and even tablets for joining the new mode of laughter yoga.

A laughter teacher from Indore, Jagat Bisht who has been associated with laughter yoga since 1995, says, “There is no need for early morning rise and timings can also be adjusted as per the requirement through this mode of laughter yoga.”

One of the active members of online laughter, SS Arora, says, “Generally morning laughter sessions are quite loud and hence it may disturb the people living in the neighbourhood. However, as we attend the online laughter session while sitting in our own house, no question arises of disturbing anyone else.”

Interestingly, most of laughers have never actually met each other and still they feel the special connection that only laughter can provide to people. Anu Saari, a resident of Finland, who had started the Skype laughter club along with Ines globally some three years ago, says, “It is amazing how close you can feel with people that you only met laughing in Skype.”

The online laughter has become so popular that the people associated with it are now dreaming to have a laughter session starting 24 times a day. The idea is to give everyone a chance to laugh from home or office or one’s cell phone from the street.

A laughter professional from Indore, Radhika Bisht, says, “Everyone is busy these days, still everyone is available online and they immediately contact one to join it.”

Satish Polisetty, a banker who has recently joined the online laughter club along with his wife, Shreelatha Setty, said, “There is no need to be in a special posture to join the session. We can make smiling faces continuously through this way.”

Still, there are certainly more features to the online laughter. Currently, laughers (members of the club) connect to each other through audio link only, while keeping their video links shut. Secondly, it is being held only once in a day in the present system and the laughers are trying to make it an hourly affair.
