Dr. Kataria’s Laughter Yoga Diary

Madhuri in a hospital in Singapore - doing HO HO HA HA

17-Mar-08
Filed under: Madan's Thoughts — Dr. Madan Kataria

With the grace of God and your blessings Madhrui is back to normal. She is at home in Mumbai and started visiting laughter clubs.
Laughing Madhuri Madhuri Madhuri

Madan & Madhuri Madhuri

We are on a four nation Laughter tour to South East Asia. After a wonderful time in Japan and Bali, we reached Singapore on 16th March for a two day leadership training workshop.

Unfortunately, Madhuri met with an accident as she was hit by a motor bike on Orchard road in Singapore and was seriously injured. We rushed her to the hospital where it was discovered that she had severe internal bleeding due to rupture of the spleen. She was also hit on the head, but luckily it was a superficial injury.

An emergency surgery was performed to remove the spleen. Everything went off well and she is now recovering in the hospital. After a tense and anxious night, she finally opened her eyes and the first thing she asked me was – “Didn’t you go for your workshop”? Her concern brought tears in my eyes and I replied, “How can I leave you in this condition and do my workshop”?

I am constantly by her side practicing deep breathing with her to help her recuperate quickly. I have cancelled all my trainings in Korea and Malayasia. This is when we really need the spirit of laughter and its tremendous power to see us through our times of crisis and adversity.

Laughter has the ability to provide the much needed strength to fight pain and eliminate thoughts of pessimism and negativity. I believe firmly in its force and its capacity to heal both physical and mental distress.

All I need is my laughter family to pray and support my belief. Her smile and gentle encouragement is my strength and I’m sure the incredible laughter therapy together with the blessings of thousands of people around the world will soon work its magic and bring her back to me and Laughter Yoga.

  6. Dearest Madhuri and Madan,

Like, I’m sure, every one in your wonderful laughter family our thoughts and prayers for a swift and full recovery are with you both. I can never think of quite the right thing to say at times like this so keep well, keep strong, keep smiling (as we all know Madhuri, when we have stitches, laughing might not be quite what the doctor would order right now.) I have sent a message out to our local laughter family so, with all the healing energy coming from laughers around the world, your room should be the brightest, healthiest and happiest place in not only the hospital but the whole of the city, and, Madhuri, the doctors should be stunned by how quickly you recover. Madan, if Madhuri is tired, please channel our love, support and healing energy through yourself to her.
Big big laughter hug to you both. You are surrounded by love and we are all here for you.

From all of us at the Nunawading Laughter Club, know that our thoughts and laughter are with you both. Madhuri, we wish you lots of smiles and giggles during your recovery, but we reserve the belly laughs for Madan as he doesn’t have to worry about splitting stitches. You are an incredible women married to one of most loving husbands. You and Madan really practice in real life the medicine you prescribe to the world. I was there to whiteness that the first question you had asked with great pain and a sleepy smile is if he is going for the laughter training. You both used Laughter and Humor to be replace in the body and mind the negativity of the whole missfortunate incident which I regret very much.

What a shock it was to learn of Madhuri’s accident. Having been away for 3 weeks, when I opened my email on Monday there were 100’s, but a recent one from Dawn caught my attention and alerted me check the laughter yoga website. Together with the amazing laughter commnity around the world, I am breathing, praying and sending you healings. I am so glad that Madhuri is recovering well - thank you for sharing your photos. Your dedication, love and tenderness for each other and love for laughter yoga (the first words Madhuri said)are awe-inspiring and move me deeply. At our laughter club in Burlington, Ontario last night and at a workshop at a conference today we dedicated our laughter to you and we all breathed, laughed and clapped for your speedy recovery. Please do take the time now to rest, heal and spend precious time together as the renewing energy of spring arrives. With much love and gratitude for you both. Happy Healing, Marja

  57. Dear Mahuri and Madan,
My prayers and thoughts have been with you since I heard of Madhuri’s accident. I can give personal testimony to the healing power of the breath and laughter. Even if you can’t laugh much right now, the yogic breathing will help in your recovery. I’m sure you know that. But it is one thing to teach yoga. It is another to be the patient and learn and try the healing techniques on yourself. That is the fun of it!! I hope you have a productive healing journey!! I include you in my daily meditations. Much love and laughter to both of you. Marlene in St Louis

  69. Dear Madhuri!
I am sending you my very best thoughts for your recovery!
I hope so much to see you and Madan in Norway next year,
for the International Laughter Day in May 2009.
Maybe you know that I have been eager to arrange this day with
you and laughter leaders and laugher lovers from other countries
    before.
Up to now I have not had the good people to help me, but now I
    have!
Wouldn’t this be nice for you, and something to look forward to?
I want so much to realize my earlier plans about showing you our wonderful country,
the fjord Sognefjorden - I was a teacher in a nice “country town” there for 20 years.
I would like to present to you the fruit (apple) trees blosssoming along the fjords. And much more.
And I would work with finding sponsors for you, of course.
Best wishes, and LOVE to you both, from Herdis.

I am in Singapore at present, after our wonderful time together in Ubud, Bali. I am so sorry to read of Madhuri’s accident. I know that you both have a remarkable power to heal others and that you will focus now on healing and getting well.

Please know that you teachings at the Bali Spirit festival will be carried throughout the world and that I am more convinced than ever that I can start a club in Papua New Guinea. I will keep you posted.

I send my thoughts, healing energy and good wishes to Madhuri for a speedy recovery. I have a friend from PNG who lives a very healthy life without a spleen (if that is any consolation).

    All the best,
